How do I request an ISBN?

ISBN Options:

You have three options for getting an ISBN for your paperback:

  1. Request a free ISBN from Platypus Publishing - Fill out this form and we will send you your ISBN within 7-10 days via email. (Note: We are only accepting ISBN requests through February 16, 2026. After that date, please use option 2 or 3 below.)
  2. Use Amazon's free ISBN - When you publish on Amazon KDP, they provide a free ISBN automatically. This is the easiest option and works perfectly for most authors.
  3. Purchase your own ISBN from Bowker - If you want full control and plan to distribute widely beyond Amazon, you can purchase your own ISBN directly from Bowker (myidentifiers.com) for approximately $125.

Remember:

  • ISBNs are used for paperbacks, not for e-books. You do not need an ISBN for an e-book.
  • Additional ISBNs are no longer available through Platypus Publishing, please utilize a free ISBN from Amazon KDP or purchase through Bowker.
  • By using a Platypus Publishing ISBN, you still retain 100% financial and creative ownership of your work. We take ZERO ownership over your book and any future creations of yours.
