How To Remain Relatable If You're A Super-Accomplished Expert

If you’re an expert in your field and are worried this won’t make you relatable to the reader or will distract from what you want the reader to take away from your book, this is my advice:

I would definitely recommend disclosing your experience — but I would just be extremely upfront with your interpretation of that experience.

State the facts of your experience/accomplishments, but explain what you think the reader should take away from that.

A lot of people will brag about their accomplishments. That is what makes them unrelatable.

But if you tell people matter-of-factly what you’ve accomplished but then also disclose your deeper beliefs of why you’re writing the book, and why they should trust you, you get the best of both worlds.

You can be relatable and have credibility/social proof that your advice is valuable.

So in short: Definitely disclose, but be super-honest about how you think readers should interpret your experience, and what you want them to take away from the book.
